I respect your comments, Fred, however, I agree with Stephen in that my chip time is MY official time. NYRR, during a crowded race has even said that due to crowded conditions of the race sleep in and start within 20 mins of the official start time. You will not be eligible for any awards, however, as the clock time is the time that awards are based on. For the mid-packer, this is just fine. Rather than starting with the masses you can start at your own pace and still have your time correctly scored. If this is such a big deal for our local paper, why do we even wear chips. The fact that people may not be happy with their clock times if they started where they should than, I agree, train harder. If their time is screwed up because the race was so crowded and they had walkers in their way than that is where our chips come into play. Why do we wear them? Certainly not as a fashion statement!
