The problem with this is basically that Glenn has been having problems with the Pepper Martin Club for at least 8 years or more. It is not taken as constructive criticism but badgering. (see Arnas Culas or other pseudonyms)They do not listen to his concerns. When they did correct a problem, he found a new one. I do not have a problem with the "rights" issue. In this age of a society willing to sue for just about anything, one has to be careful. It may not be the "right" thing to do but to ensure the survival of the race is may be the necessary thing to do. The amenities are an issue. I do know what the costs are for staging a road race. I cannot understand how on Staten Island sponsorships cannot be enlisted to provide refreshments as almost all races off Staten Island do and do extremely well. Runners should have something for their entry after the race more than water and an orange. It is not right but i'm sure costs are an issue as well due to the lack of sponsors. That is disturbing. I know what the race is, I understand there will be a lack of refreshments at the race. We bring our own refreshments and share. I participate because the race in in memory of Pepper Martin. although I did not know him, I respect the fact that he was a well liked individual and people did love him enough to have this race in his honor. In that aspect the race should be "top shelf". People that are a part of this race should be impressed and want to come back. This should be done out of respect for him. I very much look forward to the July 4th race and would like it to be a premier event but that may be a thing of the past due to the decreasing number or entrants. Promotion is an issue on Staten Island with cost factors. The ever increasing toll issues. Why should someone pay another race entry fee just to enter Staten Island and then pay for the race also? New Jersey has numerous "top shelf" races. Staten Island has a limited amount of runners. Most do a good job at supporting the races. It is a limited pool. I wil continue to support the Pepper Martin race. I know what to expect and I am glad to be there.
