On Saturday, August 4, 2001, Louis Rodriguez and Agnes Oquendo began their run from N.Y. to Miami to raise money for breast cancer research, awareness and education. The run began in Clove Lakes Park at 9am. Many local runners ran with Agnes and Louis from Clove Lakes Park to the Outerbridge Crossing. Don't forget to read Agnes' Diary to keep track of their progress. You can also post messages to Agnes and Louis or discuss this subject in our Breast Cancer Awareness Forum. Please don't forget to print a donation form and do what you can to help their cause.

For a message from Agnes detailing why they are running and what they hope to accomplish, click here.

This is the tentative route that Agnes and Louis will follow from New York to Miami:

  • We will depart from Clove Lakes Park, Staten Island. Take Victory Blvd. to Richmond Avenue to the Richmond Parkway to the Outerbride Crossing. If they allow us to stay on 440 we will but they usually kick us off as soon as we get over the bridge. If we stay on then we will look for Route 1or 27. If we get off then we'll take the street, which I think is 501, until we hit route 1. We want to stay on Route 1 until we get to North Carolina (if Route 1 is too busy then we'll run on 27 then get on Route 1 in Trenton). In North Carolina, we will meet Duke University. In Raleigh Durham we'll get on 301 then in Lumberton we'll get on 211 to catch 17. We'll take 17 through Georgia to Jacksonville then catch A1A all the way through to Miami, South Beach. That is our intended route, it may alter if needed because of construction or traffic.

This site will provide regular updates from Agnes as she makes her way from New York to Miami. You can also discuss the run and Breast Cancer research in general in a special forum dedicated to this Run.

Please help us make a difference in the fight against Breast Cancer!
