Island Track and Field Leader, Joe Maceda,
 Loses Fight With Cancer

Sunday, June 4, 2000 - It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce that Joe Maceda, today, lost his valiant fight with cancer. Joe passed away at 5:30 this morning. Joe was truly a great human being and tremendous supporter of youth and the running community. Joe was President of the Staten Island CYO - Cross Country and Track organization and he gave unselfishly of his time to all the youngsters to make running a better place for the children of the community. Even recently during his illness - he was actively involved as an executive committee member of T.R.A.C - assisting with the building of the Indoor Track facility on Staten Island. Only a few weeks ago - he was seen volunteering at the St. Clare Track meet - working tirelessly for the support of our children.

As a parent - he always could be seen attending a Track or running event for his 3 children, Joe - a student at Loyola, formally a runner at Regis HS, his daughter Jenn, a runner at St. Joseph Hill and his younger son, a member of Sacred Heart and There to Care. He will be missed by all who knew him. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his wife and family in their time of sorrow.

Wake and Funeral Arrangements to be announced and will be published as soon as available.
