SIAC
3 Mile Fun Run

August 10, 2002
by Dave Panza

Mohammed Lahseni and Danielle LaMagra were the winners at the weekly SIAC Run for Fun at Clove Lakes Park. Lahseni covered the three-mile course in 16:46, easily defeating second-place Scott Catone (18:20). Frank Connelly (18:22), A-Born Etchison (18:26) and Jonathan Rodriguez (19:20) rounded out the overall top five.

LaMagra won the women's division in 20:58, outlasting Gail Marino (21:19). Shannon Mahoney (22:36), Kim Chan (22:37) and Patty Mahoney (22:49) placed third through fifth, respectively.

It was a beautiful day for running, and we once again got a fine representation of high school girls track from Tottenville and Port Richmond. Mohammed Lahseni won yet again, pulling away from the remaining field when Scott LaMorte was forced to drop out shortly after the two-mile mark. Scott had been 15 seconds behind Mohammed at the first turn.

Danielle LaMagra overcame an early lead of Gail Marino, finally taking control in the second loop. We had a guest running appearance by an old friend of Staten Island roadracing, Marilynn Ventura, now Marilynn Ventura-Galvaire. She and her husband reside in Naples, FL. Marilynn is in town visiting, and ran the race for old times' sake. Now she's caught the bug and wants to join a track club again.

A word to the wise to me, though. I told her it was good to see an old face again. Before she could protest, I quickly needed to rephrase that one, but we both had a good laugh over my faux-pas. Ever the personality, Marilynn livened up the proceedings.

And when can we use the parking lot again? The battle with the Lake Cafe continues.
