Luis Oyola and Alma Ramos were the winners at the weekly SIAC Run for Fun at Clove Lakes Park. With the race serving as the final tune-up for the Advance Memorial Day Run, Oyola toured the three-mile course in 17:59, while Ramos won the women's race in 25:25.

Steve Woitkowski (19:20) and Keith Gill ( 20:02) placed second and third overall, while Ruth Fairbrother (28:15) and Lisa Rigolini (29:44) were second and third for the women.

Moderation was the word for the day, as runners held back in anticipation of the Memorial Day Run. Alma Ramos told me she could run as slow as 24 or 25 minutes, and I did not believe her, but she proved me wrong, as she coasted in with a pack in 25:25. And Marie Garone and Lisa Rigolini report that an unknown runner in the race was actually on a cell phone while he ran the race, reporting on the action. This may well end up as one of the top ten moments of 2002 at the Fun Run. I mean, really, talk about a lazy tune-up for the big race on Monday. We find new and interesting tidbits to top the last one, don't we?
