SIAC
3 Mile Fun Run

March 30, 2002
by Dave Panza

Doug Auer and Christine Pagano easily posted victories at the weekly SIAC Run for Fun at Clove Lakes Park. Auer covered the three mile course in 16:40, while Pagano won the women's division in 20:27.

Scott LaMorte finished second overall in 17:15, while Rich Orazem (17:37), Frank Connelly (18:04) and Mark Vogt (18:24) rounded out the top five. For the women, Danielle La Magra finished second in 21:30, while Gail Marino (21:39), Lisa Napolitano (21:42) and Janice Ellison (21:48) captured third through fifth.

Doug Auer easily powered to victory on the men's side with hard luck second place finisher Scott LaMorte running his finest race in ages. Scott is closing in on a sub 17:00 race, just like the old days, and looks to end his recent spate of second place finishes in the process.

Frank Connelly, Mark Vogt and Luis Oyola waged friendly battle, with Connelly just nosing out Vogt for fourth behind Rich Orazem. Only 20 seconds separated the second (Danielle La Magra) through sixth (Alma Ramos) woman. And kudos to fast improving 11-year old Mike Carullo, who set yet another Personal Best in 23:15.

I wanted to give Bobby Guidera the extra second, but he crossed in 20 flat. Bobby claims his chip time puts him under 20 minutes, but we haven't yet reached that level of sophistication at the Fun Run, Bobby. Food for thought, though. Imagine all the Personal Bests if we could wear those chips in the future!

And finally, Sean Dixon entrusted his house and car keys to Glenn Ribotsky, who apparently left with them in his pocket. Several runners knew approximately where Glenn and Gail Marino live, but Alex Liberatore had the exact street in mind, so as of this writing, he has come to the rescue by driving Sean to their house. If any of these facts turn out to be untrue, I will write a retraction next week, but this could be a top 10 moment of 2002 on my list.
