Chris Greene used a strong second half push to outlast Luis Oyola at the SIAC Weekly Run for Fun at Clove Lakes Park. Greene covered the three mile course in 17:34, while Oyola captured second place in 17:59. Justin Berg (18:34), Gene Galasso (18:51) and Jonathon Rodriguez (18:57) rounded out the top five.

Barbara Byrne easily captured the women's race in 20:14, with Alma Ramos a distant second in 22:17. Charlene Guarano (24:54), Lisa Rigolini (27:53) and Marie Garone (36:05) were second through fifth, respectively.

Clear, sunny, and unusually pleasant January conditions greeted the runners today, with Chris Greene overcoming Luis Oyola in the second loop to keep the high school victory trend going in the Fun Run series. Barbara Byrne posted an impressive victory in the women's race, as she continues to run very consistently from week to week.

As the runners left today, a large contingent of hikers strode past us headed from Clove Lakes to the Greenbelt. Exercise comes in many forms, but it is all good for the body, mind and soul!! Look for a feature on Steve Lauria in the 1/27/02 Sunday New York Times. A reporter called to ask about the "blizzard" race in more detail, and told me about the feature. Don't know which section (it's a big paper, happy hunting!). I'll make copies for all. There has already been a feature on Tom Celic in the Times, which appears on this website.
