SIAC
3 Mile Fun Run

January 20, 2002

Chris Strumolo and Grace DePompo pulled away from the competition in winning the weekly SIAC Run for Fun at chilly Clove Lakes Park. Strumolo covered the three-mile course in 17:35 to outlast Luis Oyola (17:49). Scott LaMorte (18:28), A-Born Etchison (18:58) and David Panza (19:09) captured third through fifth place.

DePompo won the women's division with a time of 19:39, while Gail Marino finished second in 20:20. Alma Ramos (23:32), Donna Johnson (25:10) and Ruth Fairbrother (26:55) rounded out the top five.

There was snow in the air, if not on the ground, at today's race, a calm before the storm if you will. Chris Strumolo and Grace DePompo took command of their respective races, and made the race itself a non-story. But we always dig for tidbits. The big story was the return of the race clock, which will be as well guarded as the President. But no Secret Service is needed, we have the Fun Run coordinators to assure its safety.

Lisa Mangus showed up to run incognito in hat and cool shades, and continued incognito by not signing the sheet. If a tree falls in the forest but nobody is there, is there a sound? If a runner runs the race but doesn't sign in, did she run the race?

Mike Garone got tangled up with a duck/goose. One wonders whether the birds are ticked off that we disturb them, or are simply having a good laugh on us by interfering. Who really knows how smart they truly are? I wonder.........

Alan Fairbrother took over Ruth's job of running with their canine, an unusual sight indeed. Thanks to Lisa Rigolini for the homemade M&M cookies. From running to parking lot softball to baking, LIsa is a well-rounded individual. Does she read Shakespeare, too?

Sean Dixon and Scott LaMorte showed an impressive historical memory of the Pittsburgh Steelers after the race, and thus convinced this writer that they are true blue fans and not merely jumping on the Steelers bandwagon.
