Dean Grusky broke open a close race to win the weekly SIAC Run for Fun at Clove Lakes Park, while Barbara Byrne finished first among the women. Grusky toured the three mile course in 17:14, while Richie Orazem (17:38) narrowly claimed second place over Chris Strumolo (17:41).

Byrne finished in 20:19, easily defeating Alma Ramos (24:09) and Lisa Mangus (25:43).

Today's race was contested in more comfortable conditions than recent weeks, but the first place winners, Dean Grusky and Barbara Byrne, hardly broke a sweat. Richie Orazem and Chris Strumolo toyed with most of the field before waging battle ultimately for second place. Barbara Byrne won easily, with Alma Ramos and Lisa Mangus making progress in their comeback training.

Apologies to Alma from Mark Vogt and David Panza, who briefly left her behind in the warmup run to put out the mile markers. Alma's shrieks across the lake were heard by all living creatures within a three-mile radius, including some ducks who were sleeping in late. A thank you to Scott LaMorte for showing up on time today. Tommy Hart began his latest comeback from injury and weight gain (he patted his stomach for us!), hoping to finish just one loop, but surprised himself by running both loops with Lisa Mangus. Gene Galasso sported some nasty bruises from a fall on ice in training, but still finished eighth.

And what was that odor around Martlings Pond that several runners complained about? Just one more mystery in the fabled Fun Run series at Clove Lakes Park, I guess.
