World's oldest marathon runner 'a fraud'

The "world's oldest marathon runner" has been exposed as a fraud and denied a place in the world record books.

Pierre 'Buster' Martin, who claims to be 101 years old, ran the London marathon in an attempt to lodge a Guinness World Record last Sunday.

But it appears Buster was busted lying about his age, after entering his date of birth as 1 September 1 1913 — which makes him 94.

It's not the first time Martin has attempted to fool people about his age, UK newspaper The Times reports.

British media once reported that Martin refused to take a day off work as a van cleaner on the day of his 100th birthday.

In 2006 he made headlines as the UK's "oldest employee" for working in a plumbing business.

The business uses his profile to advertise itself, including a range of website videos featuring Martin.

"[Martin] appears to be a fake, and more so, one being exploited by his company, which is using him to promote their services," The Times reported a Guinness official as saying.

Guinness has now refused to officially recognise Martin's 42km run, which he completed in just under 10 hours.

He claims he was nicknamed Buster at age three for "whacking a priest on the nose" at the Cornish orphanage where he grew up.
