I disagree with longer hours and long commutes. Training is what you make of it. I can remember 20 mile runs at midnight. Speedwork at 4am. 5 to 10 guys hammering the roads doing 10 miles in the dark at 10pm on a 6 degree night. People were a bit more team oriented and goals were met for one's self and each other. Things can be done if they are wanted. I respect the high school kids being out there because it takes alot of self discipline to run track these days with so much else to so offering instant satisfaction. People that work though can do it if they want it bad enough. We had a speaker at the SIAC awards dinner a few years ago, Joe LeMay. Super talented, not much sponsorship, he was out before work and after work with a headlamp on. Look him up and see what can be accomplished.
