Take it easy there champ. Nobody is looking to make a personal attack on you, your hard work, or your running. In our posts, both myself and Alma questioned more of the depth of races and those who aren't out there. You obviously do not fit in this category, judging from your post. If you are personally trying to disclaim my assertion that running is in general less competitive than the 1980's, I will have to go to the statistics, which are undeniable. In 1982 NYC Marathon, a time of 2:50:00 would have placed 826th overall. ThIn 2005, 2:50:00 would have placed 252. And that was not a fluke year. You will find similar results for all of the NYC Marathons of the 1980's. And this trend carries on through most other races in New York City. Ask any local race director who has 20 years of experience. They will all tell you their races were exponentially more popular 15-20 years ago. Now a days you see a lot more strollers, walkers, and back of the pack joggers. This I think is great, as these people still raise money for good causes with their entries and are encouraging active lifestyles. But we no longer exist in a competitive runners society. Now, running a 16:30 5K will win almost any local race (It would be darn close to winner Staten Island's premier 5k, The Rondaldson run). From my reliable sources (the President of Shamrock AC Joe Leahy, Armpry President Lou Vasquez), if you were running 5:00 pace, you weren't winning anything but a participant t-shirt. Congratulations to all of the finishers of the Forest Avenue mile, and those finishers for SIAC at Al Gordon. Thanks for being out there, as without you guys, the running community wouldn't exist in this great city. And by the way "Flash", congrats on your 4:53. Good luck this spring.
