Miles today -35, total miles to date- 871.7.

We started out today at 9a.m. It was 72 degrees with 96% humidity. You would
think it would be a great day for running, however mother nature had other
things in mind. It was a rematch, sun versus Lou. The early morning clouds
gave way to a merciless sun. The moist stagnant air made breathing an
impossible chore.

As an ally of the sun, Route 17 is flat with a foot of shoulder and no shade.
As the sun got tough, Lou brought out the ammunition, Oakley sunglasses
first. Next came out the secret weapon, exchanging his cap for a cap soaking
in ice water, rotating them every mile. This went on for the duration of the
day. neither one would give up.

I remember asking Lou, if it was getting tough out there? His response was,
"I'm just having fun". I'm not sure if he's determined or just stubborn!
Along the route the people who are used to seeing us are the mailpersons, the
loggers, dot workers, construction workers and of course the truckers.
I get worried when I see the dogs out there, but I guess they know Lou now
because they go home when he tells them to. either that or they're afraid of
his bark.

It's rough being the whole support team, my responsibilities are vast but I
have to use my imagination to find spots suitable enough every mile or so for
waterstops; sometimes i amaze myself. I think that i am doing a good job
keeping Lou hydrated. Spencer and Mike, we are using the chips for salt, it's
doing the job. Powerade is working as an electrolyte replacement and of course
the tips offered by Ted are in use.

Lou is dying to use his racing flats but I keep telling him, not yet.
There's a threat of rain for tomorrow, can you imagine the fight then?
I'll let you know.

Love, Lou and Agnes
