Started out at 10 a.m. today. It was only 77 degrees, and there was a nice breeze starting out…but by the early afternoon the sun was out and the heat
was ferocious.

It seems that everyone we meet has a family member or a friend with breast cancer. We met a young woman on a dirt road waiting in her car for her children.
She read the sign on the truck, told us to be careful, and that she was originally from Pennsylvania. She had to shake Lou's hand because here was a man showing some concern for breast cancer; her sister recently underwent a mastectomy. Then she told me that she had a lump in her breast that was growing, but her doctor told her not to worry because she is 29, so too young to have anything wrong. I encouraged her to get a mammography and a second opinion, and not to just wait and see. Meetings like this are what make this trip more meaningful. She said that she would tell people about the man running on 301 for breast cancer.

A couple on the road drove up to us to say hello after reading the sign on the truck. They said that we were doing a good thing, and “Thanks from a 7 year cancer survivor”.

Mileage for the day is 34. We are on the outskirts of Lumberton. F troop still lives.

‘Til tomorrow, thanks.

Love, Lou & Agnes
