NG SETS WOMEN'S MASTERS MARK IN FUN RUN

Winnie Ng a Hong Kong resident set the women's masters course record in the October 2nd. Fun Run in ideal conditions at Clove Lake Park. The slightly built athlete almost stole the race from Millemmium Challenge men's leader Scott LaMorte and ran an excellent 17:42. Kari Proffitt was second women in the race and had set the record earlier this year with a 17:57.
Ng (prononced by me NG) is an olympic athlete who represented Hong Kong in the innaurgal womens marathon in the 1984 Los Angeles Games. Her carear best at the marathon distance is in the low 2:40's. She still holds the course record in the Pepper Martin Run with a 28:29 from 1982.
Ng has a daughter Waitz(Named after 9 time NYC marathon Champ Greta) attending Cornell University and is considering becoming a permanent resident of Staten Island where she has spent much time and is well liked.

SIAC TRIPLE CROWN DINNER SET FOR THURSDAY NOV.4TH.

Ted Corbitt a Olympic marathoner will headline the guest list for the annual SIAC Triple Crown Dinner on Thurs. Nov. 4th. at the South Shore Country Club. Corbitt will both be honored and serve as the guest speaker at the dinner. Corbitt was a 1999 inductee into the long Distance Hall of Fame in Utica New York.
The Lou Marli Service Award which is awarded for "long time service to the running community" will be presented to Tom Hart. The other nominees were Nancy Heffron, The Pepper Martin Club and the Marty Celic race committee.
Ed Healy who still holds the Staten Island High School Boys record at Van Cortlandt Park for 2 1/2 miles will also be honored as his record has lasted 20 years. In Healy's senior year he won 10 straight races including the State, City, Eastern and Kinney Regional races. His 12:30.4 time at Van Cortlandt makes him the best boys Cross Country runner in Staten Island history. Dean of Staten Island running Bill Welsh will present the award to both Healy and his coach George Kochman. It should be a night to remember.
