TRAC UPDATE

13 Days and counting? The boro President's office has released information that the long awaited site of the Staten Island Indoor Track & Field Facility will be released in the next 13 days (Actually they said within 4 weeks 15 days ago). TRAC had forwarded our recommendations to the boro Pres. in December and have been waiting patiently. We don't know if any of our choices are in the "3 under consideration". TRAC plans a yearly meeting and a written yearly report in early May. As soon as a venue is secured the info. will be released. Though we are again in a dormant stage our Board of Directors continue to meet and work to insure our readiness for the next stage of this long awaited project. In the mean time an Indoor Track is planned for the Park Slope Armory possibly as early as next year under the direction of Norbert Sander and Co. at the Armory. I hope we haven't lost a beat.

What's going on: Congrats to the folks who put on the Welsh activities in March. The Roast was a great time and I only received 11 complaints about my speech...Thanks to those from the running community who have sponsored Grace DePompo in her upcoming 30 mile Run for the March of Dimes. Grace recently won the NYPD vs. NYFD 5 Mile Run for the 12th. time in a time of 32:08(5 Miles) at Central Park...The crew running the Fun Run are working on some events to celebrate the 25th. anniversary of the WEEKLY Fun Run. The Fun Run Championship will be held on Sat. June 9th. The app. should be out soon...Who would ever have thought a 10Km. Run with a partner and 5 mystery events in the woods would close out well before the race date. There are a lot of things to do w/ your partner in the woods without running but I'm impressed. Chris Ballou has brought a real interesting concept to SI Running. Too bad it's the day of the Penn Relays...The Al Ronaldson Golf outing recently announced that it's 10th. year will be the last one. Will the Ronaldson 5 Km. follow suit??...This year is the 20th anniversary of the Triple Crown. I guess that means we have to throw a few cases of Jenny Craig Steve Montick's way (Long Island) and locate Lisa Broderick in New Jersey some where for this years Triple Crown Dinner...Former Staten Islander Marc Bloom has released his latest book "Run with the Champions". The book profiles the top men/ women distance runners in American history w/a point system. The book is a who's who of SIAC/Triple Crown dinner speakers. An interesting note is when discussing Frank Shorter(#1) he talks about the apparent drug use of Waldermar Cierpinski as he beat Shorter in the 1976 Olympic Marathon. He of course never mentions drugs when discussing American sweat heart Mary Slaney. What do Europeans say when they read this propaganda??...I have formally announced that this is my last year as SIAC President. The dammed term limits are screwing up the system again. I'll have to speak to my good friend Hillary about the problem...An interesting note at the recent Farrell meet was the rejection of Poly Preps Track Team's entry into the meet. I couldn't fairly explain in writing exactly why it was rejected so I will leave it up to Farrell to explain why they were excluded...Will the St. Joseph by the Sea Big Blue Meet this weekend follow the same Catholic thinking?.I hope not...I kind of miss the NY Ombudsman don't you? He'll be back I'm sure...Me to see you soon..
